In a highly collaborative approach to delivery we worked closely with the University of Winchester to acquire land immediately adjacent to their campus and went on to build 499 bedrooms of en-suite accommodation

Driven by increasing student numbers, the University of Winchester had identified a need to provide additional accommodation but had no available campus land on which to build.

Working in partnership with the University, we identified and acquired a 1.2ha disused brownfield site from the adjoining NHS Foundation Trust.

We secured forward funding for the new development through F&C with the University entering into a 25 year institutional FRI lease in order to underpin the investment value.

The elevated and highly visible position of the development meant that the architecture and the quality of materials was of paramount importance both for the University and local stakeholders.

It influenced every step of the design and the build and was reflected in the attention to detail of the finishes.

To enhance the student experience, a café and gym along with laundry and cycle facilities were included.

Carbon reduction was also at the centre of the design approach. Installation of photovoltaic cells and solar panels to the block roofs improved the operational efficiency of the new halls and provided a sustainable building.

The University of Winchester and its students have benefited from the new campus accommodation at Burma Road which continues to help to promote the University as it attracts the very best students.

“Throughout the duration of the project considerable time was spent ensuring that we were consulted on key decisions and were kept up-to-date on progress.”
