Track Record
After many years’ experience in property development and construction, David set up and successfully grew a property development business as part of a family owned regional contracting group from 2005 - 2020. During this time, he originated and developed c£400m GDV in various property assets, including c3500 PBSA beds. Developments were delivered using a variety of funding approaches including equity funding, debt funding, institutional forward funding, and income strip structures. The portfolio included multi use business units which were variously investor sold, leased and owner occupier sold. The PBSA developments included retaining, operating, and managing c1000 beds in our own portfolio and putting together a management team from development directors to halls managers, cleaning, and security staff.
Matt joined David in the development business in January 2012 to focus on delivering student accommodation, subsequently specifying, designing, and successfully delivering over 3500 student beds.
Following the founding of Melberry in 2020 we set out to undertake development management opportunities free from the various constraints of being part of a contracting organisation.
We have a thorough knowledge of the development process, development appraisals, development funding, financing structures, together with key agency and investor contacts. We also have a track record in developing student beds that is industry leading.
We have the commercial and interpersonal skills that are key to our interface with institutional clients, investors and banks who require an understanding of their drivers and assurance of the quality of their investments.
